Sin & Punishment 2 Hands-On

Sin & Punishment was originally released exclusively in Japan in 2000. The title was created by Treasure, the legendary developers of Gunstar Heroes on Sega Genesis, and was a third-person on-rails shooter in which players would shoot everything they saw. You were constantly jumping and rolling to avoid all of the enemy fire, and then destroying the many enemies that were trying to stop you from saving the world.

Sometimes you would find yourself flying upside down, fighting battleships, or being transported into the future to fight on a subway train. The game was exciting, full of action, and the stages unpredictable. Fans of the original will be pleased to know that Sin & Punishment 2 has just as much action, if not more, than the first one had.

There are a few new abilities that players can use when playing Sin & Punishment 2, including a charge shot and flying. The player can hold the A button down on the Wii Remote and aim at as many enemies as he wants on-screen. Then the player can release the A button, letting loose a charge shot that will massively damage, if not destroy, every targeted enemy. As with its predecessor, Sin & Punishment 2's heroes can slash enemies that get too close, and can also perform a double jump. But this time, that double jump can also let players fly to the top of the screen and hover for a short time, allowing them to dodge incoming attacks.

Again, you will be attacked by tons of enemies at once, from all directions and distances. The E3 2009 demo had action to spare, and the full game may have more than any game you have ever played. The game also has great visuals. The soldiers shooting at you can be made out clearly, and the backgrounds look fantastic. Then, when the constant energy blasts and other enemies are added to the screen, it really makes you appreciate the game even more. There is a lot going on at the same time in Sin & Punishment 2, and while not every enemy will attack directly, many will. This gives players a good mix of shooting and slashing with their beamsword.

As far as the story goes, there is little to no information revealed. We know that it's set in the future, with Isa, who is the son of the main characters from the first game, being the protagonist. It seems as though ruffians are still on the loose and set on a path to destroy the world. There is no information on Kachi, who is the other playable character.

A scene of the future was shown in the first game, and it is currently unknown if that future is the current one featured in Sin & Punishment 2. We couldn't be more pleased with this game, as it's turning out to be one of the most exciting on-rails games yet.
